This has been a crazy year and I think this year we need a different perspective on the best phones to buy. Infinix launched the Infinix Note 7 lineup back in April starting with Nigeria and other markets following suits months later. The Note 7 succeeds the Infinix Note 6 which was released in 2019. It (the Note 7) comes in two models: Note 7 and Note 7 Lite. Here is a side-by-side comparison on the main difference between the devices which is minimal.

Infinix Note 7 Price and Availability
The Infinix Note 7 generally retails for UGX 725,000 ($195) for 64GB variant, and UGX 825,000 ($221) for the 128GB variant in Uganda. On Jumia, the Infinix Note 7 Lite cost UGX 539,700 in Uganda and UGX 690,000 for the 4/64GB Infinix Note 7 model. In Kenya, Infinix Note 7 cost KSh 20,699 on Jumia Kenya for the 6/128GB variant. The lite 4/64GB version retails at KSh 15,799 in Kenya as well. In Nigeria, the 4/64GB variant cost ₦ 68,000 in Jumia while the 6GB/128GB model sells for ₦ 98,000.

Infinix Note 8 and Infinix Note 8i
In October 2020, Transsion took to the stage to unveil a successor to the Note 7 lineup in form of Infinix Note 8 and Note 8i. The two variants see an improvement in specs, cameras, processor chips and battery life. As a cherry on top, this is the first Infinix smartphone to feature a USB Type-C port and charging support of up to 18W. The 5200mAh battery should result in respectable battery life as well, an aspect where Infinix Note devices have been known to dominate. In the camera department, the Note 8 and Note 8i packs 6 cameras for the worthy upgrade: four (4) at the back and two (2) at the front. A dual selfie shooter with a 16MP primary lens and a 2MP portrait sensor. The rear camera setup consists of a 64MP main, a 2MP Portrait, another 2MP for Macro and an ‘AI Camera’. Infinix Note 8 and Note 8i keeps the same side-mounted fingerprint scanner and face unlock and a huge HD Infinity O display.

In Uganda, Infinix Note 8 cost UGX 900,000 on Jumia for 6/128GB storage and Infinix Note 8i is shy of UGX 650,000 on Jumia as well for a 4/128GB RON model. In Kenya, Infinix Note 8i retails at KSh 15,999 while the regular Infinix Note 8 sells for at KSh 23,399 on Jumia. In Nigeria, the latest Infinix Note 8 cost ₦ 135,000 and Infinix Note 8i is at ₦ 70,200 for a 4/64GB storage variant.

Infinix Hot 9 and Infinix Hot 9 Play
Infinix Hot series lineup has always been the darling for average phone users because of its price and decent specs. The Hot 9 and Infinix Hot 9 Play comes as an iterative upgrade to the Hot 8 launched in 2019. The Hot 9 packs the same 5000mAH battery capacity with its predecessor which shouldn’t be a big cause for concern as most smartphone batteries averages such numbers in 2020. The Infinix Hot 9 Play model, however, sees a huge leap in improvement with a 6000mAH battery capacity. Something a bit uncommon for entry-level smartphones. The main camera sees a downgrade from the 16MP in Hot 9 to 13MP in Infinix Hot 9 Play. HOT 9 comes in various colours including Quetzal Cyan, Midnight Black, Violet and Ocean wave with a unique Gem Cut Texture, appealing to the youthful spirit and amplifying the series’ positioning. Both models of the Hot 9 lineup are a welcome addition to the series and the trade-offs are evenly distributed to choose for anyone operating within a budget.

All Infinix phones are available across all Infinix or TECNO branded shop in major cities/towns across the whole continent. For online shoppers, Jumia Uganda sells the Infinix Hot 9 3GB+64GB ROM for UGX 488,000 and Infinix Hot 9 Play variant with 2GB+32GB ROM at UGX 460,950. In Kenya, the Infinix Hot 9 Play 2+32GB variant retails at KSh 12,950 and Infinix Hot 9 3GB+64GB ROM is at KSh 13,999. Infinix Hot 10 and Hot 10 Lite
Compared to their predecessors, specs-wise, these devices have upgraded battery capacity, slightly bigger display and a polished better processor chips. Performance-wise, the Hot 10 the first ever device to feature the Octa-core Helio G70 processor in HOT series. This brings about improvement in CPU management, GPU, memory, and gaming. The Infinix Hot 10 Lite is being sold at UGX 399,000 in Uganda on Jumia and Infinix Hot 10 at UGX 545,000 for a 3GB+65GB ROM model. We have witnessed a consistent improvement in the Infinix smartphones over the last few years and the Infinix S5 is just another example of that. The phone is powered by Octa-core, 2 GHz, Cortex A53 processor. It runs on the MediaTek Helio P22 Chipset. It has 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage.
